This is supposed to be a page of the writers take on how the island in W. Shakespeares The Tempest plays the role of another character, or perhaps a symbol, which prompts both its inhabitants and the shipwrecked survivors to contemplate its nature. This piece of writing should also answer the question whether the play provides a commentary on romantic views of civilization and urbanization versus a return to a more wild, natural world. Ideally it would have at least one reference to the actual text.
